Sometimes submissions will be edited or reworded but when Becca submitted Charlie for Dog of The Day she did such a good job I had to copy and paste her note word for word. If you'd like to share with the world why you love your four legged friend, email

Charlie is a big, goofy 7-year-old mutt from Austin, TX. He is part Catahoula  and part Whippet (with some other breeds mixed in, too). He was adopted at 6.5 years old, after spending a year in the shelter. We don't know the reason he was given up so far into his life, and he's such a good dog, we really can't figure out why! When he was adopted, he was heartworm positive. His treatment and adoption fee were all sponsored by an anonymous donor. So if you happen to see this, Anonymous Donor, Charlie and his forever family can't thank you enough for helping us bring him into our lives. Charlie handled heartworm treatment like a champ, and is now healthy enough to wear out both his "parents". Fortunately, he has his best dog friend and neighbor, Sadie (an 8 month old Lab/Great Dane mix), to help wear him out. Charlie aims to please, and is constantly surprising his family with his ability to learn. He loves little kids; they're small and easier to give face kisses! He's a big snuggler and loves to cuddle up on the couch or the bed or, well, anywhere! As we say goodbye for the day, Charlie would like to remind all the doggie parents out there that heartworm, while a scary and serious disease, is easily preventable. Now, we've got to go, I think we hear the dog park calling!
